Hydrology to the rescue!

First the good news:

Timely rains helped extinguish recent wildfire.

Rain sometimes wets the surface,
but doesn't make it to the water table below

The bad news:

That same rain didn't budge the water table one bit.

The water table is still 3 feet below the center of the slough.

And by the way, that matches the same level of the nearby canal (see above).

The caveat:

We may have a whopper of a big rain day on the way.

We'll see how the water table responds to that.
