Last year (red line) we had a record wet summer,
Followed by a jaw-dropping winter recession into drought.
The wet season/ dry season dichotomy is normal for the swamp,
Just not the extreme version we saw last year.
This year, in comparison, swamp stage (blue line) is trending in tune with the long-term normal (dotted line).
Or is it premature to call it normal until we get one or two good big rain events.
Summer isn't summer in the swamp until the pine islands get a little wet.
