April is the new December

December marks the end of the calendar year.

But it isn't until April until south Florida's "water year" ends.

The reason?

South Florida has two halves of the year: a summer wet and winter dry season.  For rainfall accounting purposes, I lump the six months from May to October into the wet season and the six months from November to April as the dry season.  In truth, May is a dry-to-wet season transition month, thus making April the official last "full month" of the dry season.

In any event, this year's dry season is still stuck on 4 inches.

That's less than half the long-term dry season average!
