Why end of wet season is always "scary"

Don't look now ...

But the wet season is almost over.

Historic look at the summer rainfall (in inches) for south Florida, divided into thirds.

Technically speaking,

The wet season ends in early October, usually by Columbus Day, with the demise of the regular occurrence of afternoon storms.  For the sake of simplicity and accounting for tropical events, however, from a book keeping standpoint we include the full month of October.

By that metric the rainy half of the year ends on Halloween.
