Obsolete boundary in the swamp

The L-28 is often confused.

Not only are there many L-28s (as shown below).

It is often mistaken as a physiographic divide ...

Between the Everglades and Big Cypress. More accurately it was installed (in the 1960s) as a land ownership division: Public lands to the east (right) on which "water would be conveyed" and private land to the west (left) on which "land would be conveyed."

Today, the lands to the west are no longer private, but rather Big Cypress Nat'l Preserve.

Thus making the levee and the purpose it once served obsolete.
