Lake Caloosahatchee

High Lake O stage is widely blamed ...

For the winter water releases to the coast.

The  chart above provides a summary of water stage in Lake Okeechobee (top) and discharge down the Caloosahatchee River (bottom).  The discharge volume graph differentiates between water entering the Caloosahatchee estuary as a Lake release (blue) and as runoff from the watershed (green).

But in the big scheme of things ...

Lake O wasn't that high.

It's just the regulation schedule that changed instead.

The regulation scheduled was lowered following Hurricane Wilma which will remain in effect until engineering work to strengthen the levee is complete.
