"Hydrologic" cause and effect

Welcome to S-79,

Also known as the W.P Franklin Lock and Dam.

The Caloosahatchee River
is the highwater outlet
for the Lake
But managers think of it more as a flow structure.

Record rains have caused those gates to open up to relieve pressure on the upstream Lake's levee. That hasn't been a major problem over the past few years but it is now ever since the Lake rose over a foot in the past month.

Hydrograph of Lake O stage
over the past several years relative
to eco-operational thresholds
and historical stats
That's good for the levee but bad for the estuaries downstream.
