Swamp rosetta stone

Can you see this summer got a late start?

Five months later it appears it doesn't want to end.

This calendar chart shows a history of surface water flooding in Big Cypress Nat'l Preserve from 1991 to present.  Thicker blue bands show times when water is up in the hydric and mesic pinelands.  The light brown shows times when the wetting front is in the marl prairies.  Light green shows times when the water front retreats to the outer perimeter of the cypress domes and strands.  Warmer colors (yellow and red) show times when the water table starts to recede below ground.  Where you see no dots at are are when the swamp is driest and the water table deepest.

Other El NiƱo years of note (i.e. wet winters) were 1995, 1998 and 2010)
