Hint: That's where the trees are tallest.
More specifically, in the middle where the big trees call home.
During the summer the green part of the strand in the photo above -- I call it the thalweg (an old stream ecology term) -- is also where you get your deepest and fastest flowing sheet flow. In just a few weeks time, the rest of the cypress -- including the dwarfs -- will turn green, too.
But those small trees aren't just following the big trees' lead.
All the cypress are just waiting their turn as daylight hours steadily increase.
Fun to catch it in its opening act!
