Soggy pines of 2013

Wet years aren't measured by how deep it is in the cypress,

But how long the pines stay shallowly wet.

The chart above shows the duration (in months) that the swamp's wetting front rose into the pinelands. Orange indicates the duration for the hydric pines and red indicates the duration for the mesic pines.  Hydric pines usually have less ground cover in comparison to the palmetto covered mesic ground.  This was our wettest year in the pines since 2005.  Other wet years include 1994-95, 1997 (thanks for a wet spring) and 1999.

By that metric we had a pretty wet year.
