Water is being wasted

Summer's here:

That means canals are full.

Can you see the submerged slots where
the stop gates slide in and out?

And in this case flowing directly to tide.

That's because the stop gates get completely pulled out.

Here's the stop gate,
resting on the road bank
of the State Road 29 Canal

With conservation lands on both sides,

Maybe its time we found a way save that water (i.e. hold it back in the freshwater wetlands) to enhance and seasonally prolong sheetflow instead.
