Swamp makes own luck

When it comes to water management,

A perfect rainfall is pretty hard to beat.

The bar chart above shows the duration of time each year, i.e. winter and spring, that pond apple forests go dry.  This year wasn't for too long -- just a half month -- compared to 1.3 months the previous year and over 4 months during the deep drought of Spring 2011.  Recent years have seen an increased duration of these lowest lying holes in the swamp going dry.  That trend can be reversed by a combination of bountiful April rains (luck) or better water management (making our own luck), or a combination of the above.

The flip side is when the rains fail ...

That's when we wish we had perfect water management instead.
