Thunderous lullaby

The fabled winter countdown has begun:

Only five months to go until the new wet season begins.  (That was the countdown you where thinking about, right?)

It was shaping up to be a "dry" dry season
before last night's noisy rain

Regardless, between now and then -- despite it being called the dry season -- the swamp depends on such rains, even if they only come once a month or two, to keep water levels from dropping too fast and too deep. The thunder woke me up repeatedly through the night but, hydrologically speaking, also hearing the rain --

I slept tight.

I felt like we were being barraged by artillery. But our lake sure rose nicely.
