| This rain chart shows annual rainfall for Coastal Miami-Dade County, as tabulated from May 1st through April 30th, from 1970 to present. Why not use the traditional calendar year instead? That's because May 1st is a convenient break-point for splitting the year into equal six-month long wet and dry halves. The blue portion of each year represents the wet season rain total and the yellow portion the dry season rain total. Miami-Dade typically receives 43 of its 55 inch annual rain total during the wet season half. Can you see how this year's wet season was unusually rainy? (Side note: Go LeBron!) |
