Scenic curve is also major crossing

Here's a stretch of road they need to straighten out.

Actually, it's the only curve between the two coasts.

Can you see East Crossing Strand?
I-75 is down there, too.

What's the reason for the scenic bend?

I'm not sure, but I do know the name of the flow system that intersects orthogonal at that spot. It's called East Crossing Strand.

I sure can see it! We have turtle crossings in some swampy areas here in West Michigan. Sadly there wasn't much study before they put it in and we are still losing turtles here.

The best antidote is low speeds and driver awareness. Good engineering helps, too.
