And they're off!

The water cycle has no beginning and end,

But if you had to pick one ...
Memorial Day would be the start.

South Florida's water cycle
is not unlike the race between
the Tortoise and the Hare
The holiday that signifies the start of the summer for the Continental USA also coincides with the regular onslaught of afternoon rains for Peninsula Florida. As for the diagram above, I liken south Florida's water cycle to the race between the Tortoise and the Hare. The Tortoise signifies evapotranspiration and the Hare rainfall. The Hare leaps quick out of the gate on Memorial Day and expands its demanding lead straight into the fall.

Then the rains stops, i.e. the Hare takes a winter nap,

Thus giving the steady Tortoise time to catch up.
