Our household water meter counts around 5,500 gallons per month.
That adds up to about 6 swimming pools per year.
But what really has me feeling like a water hog
is how much (or little) of it per year I actually drink:
About six of these ...
Just not all at once.

It's a terrible feeling when you realize just how much water your household uses. We can only hope we don't end up like the Ancient Mariner: Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink! I can remember when I was a kid how conservative my parents were with water. We lived out in the boonies at the time and depended on our own well for water. My dad even rigged up a sink in the laundry room to capture the rinse water so it could be reused for the next load of wash. And I got reminded almost daily on how many pumps of the well my shower had cost it.
So true, today we're spoiled by that standard. And point in case, knowing where your water comes from "builds character." :^)
