Often described as a No Man’s Land(within whose middle waters we should never stop),
We are also fed with the mixed metaphorical message
to not switch our horses in “midstream” once we do.
Me being forever the optimist:
I’ve always seen it as a glass half full …
Or in other words,
"Halfway there is all downhill from here."
This particular Halfway Creek is a backdoor into the Big Cypress Swamp.
In the Days Before Roads, watermen dubbed it as such in recognition of its location at the halfway point between Everglades City and Turner River …
Or at least that’s one theory.

My only rule with the halfway point is to avoid getting there at sundown!

Sorry, but that video is pretty depressing.
The headwaters of the river are now connected to a canal. You're right, it's not the most scenic view from up high, but that canal does serve as cold water refuge for quite a few manatees ... and is known for a pretty good spot to fish for snook and tarpon.
