How many gators are in Mud Lake?Probably the better question is how many gators aren't in Mud Lake! It was about as filled with gators as it was empty of water.
Mud Lake is not the deepest lake in Big Cypress Nat'l Preserve, nor the most scenic -- but it is the muddiest, and unusually so. No other water hole in the preserve has its distinctive cloudiness.
In this photo it's doubly so: cloudy waters beneath the surface and also on top -- reflecting the sky above.
If you're a gator, that's about as good as it gets.

I can't see the alligators but I don't think I'll wade in looking for them! Lovely cloud reflections anyway.
That's a beautiful photo! I love the reflections. Have to agree with Rinkly Rimes, I won't be looking for them. Have a great weekend :)
Great capture and great reflection
Nice little clip. Even muddy it still produces a nice little reflection.
In that video clip, that what is moving, one flipping it's tail, those are alligators, right?
I guess nobody walks to a lake like that.
How many do you think?
you mean there are gators in Mud Lake? you had a nice reflections of sky in your photo.
and by the way thanks for dropping by to my blog
Many lakes all over the world are polluted. Is water pollution a problem in Florida?
We have a solution for this - Nualgi.

I love those floating clouds that mirror on this beautiful Mud Lake. Thanks for visiting my blog. Yours is highly educational.
It's all in your point of view, isn't it?
Mine: ooh, muddy! wish it were crystal clear so I could see
Gator's: ooh, muddy! this is great - no one can see me
Thanks for your comments.
This is an interesting "in between" water for the preserve. It's not as deep as a traditional sink hole, but much less shallow than our traditional depressional marshes. That makes it another one of a kind in the Big Cypress Swamp.
This is not an example of water pollution. Mud Lake is located dead central in one of the most pristine and unaccessible parts of the swamp.
That's a good point to differentiate what looks good versus its benefit to the creatures that inhabit it. There is more than meets the eye than we'll ever know.
Hi Bob, I'd like to take the entire Fl Gator football team --including Prince Tebow ---and let them go swimming with the gators in THAT lake... Wonder who'd win--the real Gators or the human ones???????????
If we could get rid of those Gainesville Gators, my UT Vols might win a few more games. HA HA

What a beautiful picture and wonderful relections!
I hadn't heard of Mud Lake before, but it certainly is interesting. You got some nice reflections in that muddy water.
Good for the gators, not so good for swimming!
Nice video of Mud Lake. It is a little difficult seeing it from the ground. Too much underbrush and too many gators.
That's a great point. I've never seen it from the ground. And I've never seen it dry either. As dry as it has been, it still holding water, if also very muddy water. But that's just it living up to its name.
