Big Cypress skyline

As the winter eases into spring, here's a look back at an endless view of cypress near the end of fall, back when the only green in town (or this case, the swamp) were the slash pine islands and hardwood hammocks.

(Notice towards the end of the clip how we dip into the center of a dome.  That gives a good perspective on how big the trees are.)

It's a beautiful thing to see the Big Cypress Swamp from the air.

It's not too bad from the ground either.

Thanks for the chopper ride - loved the part where it turned around and we got to see the chopper's shadow.

Happy Friday!

Thanks Bob for the 'copter ride... Loved it---but I kept thinking, "Gee--it sure is FLAT down there in Florida."

Have a great weekend.

Thanks for your comments. Good eye Tink on the Shadow! And you're right Betsy about it being incredible flat. But it's also an optical illusion of sorts. The curvilinear rise and fall of the cypress domes give the illusion of rolling hills. That's what I thought anyhow the first time I flew. The irony is that the "hills" (i.e., the tops of the cypress domes) are actually the deepest parts of the swamps, and which hold the water the longest.

The shadow of the helicopter provides as much scale as anything else. But I see what you mean. Those are some impressive trees!

What a great view from above! That would be so neat to go up like that and take photos.
